Behind the Fatboy

A few years ago, at my last job, we ran a Fatboy Challenge. The idea was simple, loose weight, win cash.

The Challenge took part amongst the IT department of a large company in Sheffield, UK, where most people sit on their backsides all day and get very little excersise. You could use any method you wanted to loose weight, although Anorexia and lipo-suction were frowned upon. It was a pretty good success, with only one guy actually gaining weight over the period of the Challenge, and most people lost weight.

A lot of the guys that took part in that challenge also work with me at my new company, and seeing as the last challenge didn't transform us into a group of Adonis' (Adonii?) we thought it might be a good idea to have another go.

We have 11 contestants, Stu (me), Andy, Neg, Ado, Adam, New Adam, Pete, Simon, Tony, Karen (not strictly a "boy" I know, but the Fatboy Challenge is not sexist), Tim

The initial weigh in is Tomorrow, Friday 5th August and the challenge runs for 2 months ....

Falling off the Blog

Didn't really do much this week had 2 salads one of which was a KFC salad with ceaser dressing :-( KFC nutrion info stats that a KFC zinger salad is 17g of fat and I though yes that will do me then I noticed that the sauce was 20g of fat as well. ;-(

had 2 not one but two bacon and cheese turnovers, and I'm heading on my holidays today .

Last week I started rugby training and while every inch of me hurt I must say that I really enjoyed it. Its the giving up my weekends that I have a problem with as I want to be able to go and visit my brother and his family once in a while. I'm hoping that last weeks work will have lost me some more weight and that the percentage of fat will have reduced more. I will weight my self tonight on normal scales and do an estimate on the % of fat lose based on the last measurement. As I am on holiday next week it will be three weeks for me between proper measurements.

No weigh in for 2 weeks

There was no weigh in last Friday, and there won't be one this week either, the weigh master is on his jollies so we don't have the special scales he brings.

My weight in today compaired to last week % of body fat went up due to loosing 10 lbs

Weight loss and Fat loss per week
WeekStoneLbsTotal (Lbs)Total (KG)% of FatFat (Lbs)Fat (Kg)
115821898.9726.858.4226.52
2141220894.4327.256.5825.69
Total Lost104.54
1.850.84
recorded by Aldur Fatboy

All in all I might be near the back of the group for loosing % fat but I'm loosing weight into the bargin. But we will see how it goes over the next few weeks, I've had a salad nearly ever day for lunch too. To celebrate my weight loss I had a Chicken Ceaser Salad in Nandos and for desert frozen yogurt, very nice in deed

First week's results

Here is the leaderboard after the 1st week's weigh in:
 2.1% Tim Haynes (Cartman)
1.4% Pete Kelly
0.5% Simon Beaver
0.5% Stuart Grimshaw (Stubbs)
-0.2% Adam Ashmore
-0.4% Adrian Sweeney (Aldur Fatboy)
-0.4% Neg Patel
-0.5% Karen Lawson (Lovehandles Lawson)
-0.8% Tony Dobson (Big Tony)
-0.9% Adam Mcauley (New Adam)
Tim's beer, pizza & curry diet seems to be working a treat, while Adam Mc seems to have got the wrong end of the stick.

The figures above show the % drop in body fat, so those with negative figures have actually gained weight.

(Arul & Andy were not in the office when the weigh in took place, but will be added asap.)

First day at the gym and first rabbit food argh

Actually went better than I thought, the gym was great fun and I actually enjoyed my self and a long hot shower after was both welcomed and needed, did a lot of work on the bikes and other machines, which went alot better than the running machine.

Thought I would take it easy on the running machine. As I had ran for the tram a month ago (about 200 yards) and nearly killed myself doing it :-) got a strange look from the conductor as I lay gasping on the seat hee hee. So when I started on the running machine I decide to start with a 3 minute run. First minute was fine a gentle run I think it said 6 Kph woo woo ;-) then it stepped up and I stopped reading the dam flashy screen and paid attention to keeping on the dam machine, my belly kept jumping around and quite off putting, was glad when the second minute finished and it started to slow down.

All in all I really enjoyed the Gym and look forward to going tomorrow for my CV thing.

Now we come to rabbit food argh this has to be the worst part of the whole thing I hate lettuce and all that crap and I have a small phobia of tomatos the though of biting into one just sends shivers up my spine, but I know that I will have to change my diet or at least add to my diet, I don't actually have a bad diet if you get rid of the pasty wagon and the odd Curry (very infrequent) I do eat reasonable healthy no Tv dinners for example mostly you will find ingredients that have to be put together in my kitchen. Well I bought my frist salad today tuna and letuce, man I though all salads were the same but because we are doing the fat-boy challange I decide to look at the fat content I saw a nice looking pasta salad that had 8g of fat and though err how much fat is too much so started look at the products available and found some pre packaged salads one of which I got the first I looked at was a chicken ceaser salad 18g of fat the second was the tuna salad 5.5g of fat, Have I told you yet I don't like fish either :-(, but all in all when I started eating it I hated it with every fiber in my being but then suddenly the hate disappeared and I actually enjoyed it argh I don't want to eat lettuce I want to bite into a perfectly cooked steak.

I will be checking out the following web site http://www.obesity-support.co.uk, Jason was a very overweight person and I think he would admit to it (hes a friend of a friend), didn't see him for about 3 months but I knew he was dieting and that he was setting up this website, man you should see him now at least half the size he was and looking a lot better for it. He doesn't put him self or his site across as definitive guide to the information its just info that he gathered while researching his own deitary needs and decided to put it together to help others to use to loose weight like me, looking to lose 2-3 Stone or others looking to loose 5-8 stone or more. Hes not a doctor or anything like that its just a information site.

End of Day one and Start of Day two

Ended day one going off to the pub and Chris dragged me to a curry house in town and I felt so guilty by the time the main course arrived I had eat hardly any of it. So I left 3/4 of a curry behind me as I just couldn't make myself eat it. god was it nice though.

So am giving up the drink probably until christmas, Laugh if you want but I can say no to a drink quite easily. Though I will be meeting up with some friends in dublin at the end of the month so I might have a relapse for a weekend ;-)

Joined Ponds Forge today £27.99 a month with a minimum of 3 months contract and am heading down for 5:30 for my induction. The membership allows me free access to all facilities aparently. Well for 30 quid I would hope so.

And I got my secret weapon today ;-) *sussh* its a secret.

First day has arrived, and instead of starting it like I want to continue I started it completely opposite, No healthy breakfast and my usual 2 bacon and cheese turnovers at 10am, Which I savoured due to the fact that I won't be allowing my self to enjoy them anymore, My last pasty wagon visit *sob* *sob*, of course then it was off for lunch and I kidded my self that I was eating healthly, well more healthy than this time last year.

So whats my plan? simple will look at joining a Gym tomorrow. I will have to look at getting rabbit food in, I wonder how much alcohol puts on weight and fat?? mmm off to research in the pub tonight I think.

Tale of the tape

Stuart Grimshaw

Co organiser and pot holder. Stuart has been picking up the exercise at
football training and the start of the season could see the lbs drop off.
However, pizza hut on speed dial is a big weakness for stuart.

Odds 6-1

Andy Davidson

A plodder rather than a sprinter. Andy may surprise a few with his steady
quiet approach to the challenge. The Sheffield beer festival towards the
end of the challenge could undo all the early work.

Odds 10-1

Pete Kelly

Previous winner and a firm favourite with the putters. Pete seems to have
the mental toughness to last the challenge, but Friday cakes and lunch could
be his undoing. Good weather could see Pete get out on more for exercise.

Odds 3-1

Adam Ashmore

Adam looks to be amongst the also rans in the field. Needs a positive
approach which could see him take an early lead. Needs to be motivated to
win.

Odds 12-1

Tim Haynes

This shropshire rugby player could see an improvement early on as the new
season takes its toll. The post game drinking with the team will not help
his chances.

Odds 8-1

Adrian Sweeney

The Irishman will struggle unless his hearing is sorted. The call of the
pasty van is too much to bear and will be his undoing.

Odds 15-1

Karen Lawson

Most to lose and has the will power to succeed. Karen needs to be strong
against the taunts of other competitors. Tempation may bite when at home as
the pressure will be off once away from the office.

Odds 4-1

Adam McAuley

Quiet contestant who really should have saved the entry fee. Adam is up
against a few big hitters and may struggle with the high weight load.

Odds 20-1

Neg

Started early, but may not have the desire for the long haul. Will be happy
to cross the line a few lbs lighter. Will succeed in finishing, but won't
win.

Odds 15-1

Simon Beaver

The Beaver doesn't seem to be up for the challenge, but this may be a
disguise into fooling the rest. Watch out for tell tale signs of missing
Friday cakes and lunch.

Odds 10-1

Tony Dobson

The boss. Biggest weakness will be the bar after rugby. Doubt remain about
his stamina to keep pace with the younger starts.

Odds 12-1
